As part of our learning on how to keep ourselves safe online, Year Six have completed the Google Be Internet Legends topic of "Think Before You Share." We used this slides presentation to guide our learning.... The children followed a series of activities to heighten their awareness to the importance of privacy online. They also played the Interland game of Mindful Mountain to consolidate their learning. This week, Year Six have been working hard on their coding skills, taking part in the National Hour of Code....we enjoyed combining code blocks to manipulate our on screen characters. We’ve never seen the children so quiet!
This half term, our focus has been about cyber bullying and demonstrating appropriate behaviour online. Through researching what respectful behaviour is, analysing a variety of scenarios and lots of discussion, the children have seen the impact of negative online remarks. In small groups, the children designed, produced and published their own Cyber Bullying podcasts using the Anchor app - you can hear some examples below. In Year Six, we learnt how to add, edit and manipulate data within a spreadsheet. Skills we learnt included using custom sort and filtering, complex functions of sum and average and we were able to use conditional formatting to help interpret the data. Design Our Own: Applying New and Old SkillsOnce we had completed the challenges, the children were then able to design their own spreadsheets, combining skills that they had previously learnt when using Microsoft Office....some examples of the work they produced can be found below.
This half term, we learnt about how the media produce and promote gender ideas online. We discussed why it is important to challenge these stereotypes, reject inappropriate messages and thought about the potential dangers in all aspects of IT.
As part of our Keith Haring inspired artwork, the children produced their own animation using their characters for the "People in Action" project.
We then progressed to discuss “Fake News” which has been impacting on the internet in recent years. We learnt how to cross reference sources to check whether articles were genuine and discussed the importance of how we behave on social media.
This term the children created their own mini film, combining photographs, greenscreen skills, voice overs and animations. All 92 children were involved!
