During storm Ciara the children in foundation 1 enjoyed watching videos about how the weather had impacted on our local area. The children explored how we can use the internet to retrieve information about the weather forecasts on local news sites. The children showed a huge interest in watching videos of flooding and the big waves in New Brighton.

Foundation 1 enjoy exploring different types of every day technology in our home role play area. We have enhanced our role play areas to include a wide range of technology- some that are familiar and others that the children may have not seen before.
The children have enjoyed using the rotary dial telephone and film camera within their play and this exposure to older technology has allowed the children to make comparisons and have discussions surrounding the different types of technology we use on an every day basis. When exploring the film camera the children noticed that there is no screen to see the pictures they have taken this lead into a discussion about having to wait for pictures to developed and printed. The children also compared the phones they have at home to the rotary dial phone in the role play area- the children explored how to dial numbers and discussed the difference between a mobile phone and a land line. EYFS Links: UTW Technology 30-50m • Shows an interest in technological toys with knobs or pulleys, or real objects such as cameras or mobile phones. In foundation 1 the children have enjoyed using YouTube to search for songs that the children would like to dance to. This has been an excellent opportunity to discuss internet safety when using YouTube. The children discussed the importance of waiting for the teacher to approve songs before putting them on the interactive whiteboard, always having an adult present when they are using YouTube so that content is monitored, never clicking on a new video before checking with an adult first and always gaining permission before accessing this website.
