IpadsUsing Ipads- This term the children have loved using our school Ipads in continuous provision. We have been learning how to use the apps to play games and how to use the camera to capture videos and pictures. In foundation 1 we have been talking about what apps and games we use at home and what to do if we are unsure about how to use an app or game. Foundation 1 have been talking about the importance of asking an adult for help and being aware of how much time we spend on our Ipads. Foundation 1 have been using sand timers to set time limits when using our Ipads so that we can practice good sharing and turn taking as well as being aware that we need to monitor our screen time. We have loved using our Ipads to play counting and phonics games on apps like Busy Things and Cbeebies! Interactive WhiteboardUsing our interactive whiteboard- Across the foundation stage children have had access to our interactive whiteboards. This term the children in foundation 1 have loved using YouTube (supervised by a teacher) to search for videos about things they are interested in. When learning the nursery rhyme "1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive" many of the children expressed an interest in learning more about different types of fish and sea creatures. The children then used YouTube to search for information videos and loved watching videos of whales on the board. As part of our E-safety lessons we also used this opportunity to talk about the importance of asking an adult before using apps and websites such as YouTube to watch videos, especially at home on our own devices. Using the board to play interactive games on Busy Things has also been a favourite activity for the children- we have loved creating art work, practising counting, playing with shapes and working on our letter formation using the touch screen board. This term foundation 1 have been using the role play area to explore different types of technology we use in our home. The children have loved using the mobile phones to make phone calls and using the cameras to take photographs. The children have been discussing other types of technology we use in the home- TV's, radios, alarms etc. EYFS Links: UTW Technology: 30-50m • Shows an interest in technological toys with knobs or pulleys, or real objects such as cameras or mobile phones.
